“…a despot easily forgives his subjects for not loving him, provided that they do not love one another… he applauds as good citizens those who have no sympathy for any but themselves.”

-Alexis de Tocqueville

“Liberty said, ‘let there be light,’ and like a sunrise on the sea, Athens arose.

-Percy Bysshe Shelley

“We have been fighting on this planet for 5,000 years and we should take advantage of their experience. ‘Winging it’ and filling body bags as we sort out what works reminds us of the moral dictates and the cost of incompetence in our profession.”

-General James Mattis, United States Marine Corps

Bio:

Although I have not yet passed beyond the category of “young”, I have seen enough unspeakable horror in my life to solemnly understand the rarity of peace as experienced in America. The unearned blessings of liberty I have enjoyed throughout my life have convicted me to be a guardian of this peace, ever since I was a small child who lost his innocence as he watched humans plummet to their deaths from burning towers. In middle school and high school, this growing conviction (stoked by the barbarity of communist violence and terrorism suffered by helpless individuals) drove me to chart a course to the United States military and national defense policy research. In the eight years I have spent conducting in-depth policy research for debate, I have become even further convicted of my role of defending humanity from what Thomas Jefferson once referred to as “the throes and convulsions of the ancient world… the spasms of infuriated man, seeking through blood and slaughter his long-lost liberty…” The advent of America has proven that the attainment of this long-lost liberty does not necessitate infuriated slaughter. It merely necessitates the moral courage to defend the domestic tranquility which would appear to be heaven by any ancient standard.

My collegiate studies have thus aimed to garner a comprehensive understanding of civilization and diplomatic history so that I may better serve my country through strategic analysis. My first academic study was a year-long project supervised by Dr. Caleb Karges, PhD, which analyzed the grand strategic implications of deploying land-based artillery air defense systems to Seoul, South Korea. This study was reviewed by the Concordia University Presidential Honors Academic Showcase review board, and it was the highest-scored study based on literature review, argument strength, organization, and evidence. I shall be authoring more studies along these lines during my remaining time in college. After I graduate, I shall be attending the United States Marine Corps’ Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia.
